My brain has an ever present ticker feed of publications, dates, names, titles, websites, thinkpieces, tweets, essays, poems, chapbooks, ISBNs, gossip, and hot-takes that continues to scroll through my thoughts as I get groceries, go for runs, do my laundry, even when I entertained a new friend I met on Grindr. This is not a problem that I was expecting when I first brought up the idea of doing a news roundup on trans authors. I thought I would be struggling to find enough tidbits to justify putting up a post on Book Riot. Now I’m struggling to stay on top of everything that trans writers are up to. At a point in the deluge I had a single, bitter thought, “What are people talking about when they say they can’t find work by trans writers?” From my vantage point it was impossible for me to imagine someone being able to NOT find something by a trans person. Hell, I was getting physically exhausted just trying to keep track of all the new and upcoming publications. It wasn’t until I took a step back (and probably drank a bourbon for my nerves) that everything started to make sense. It wasn’t that I was drowning in a sea of new projects from writers, I was drowning in the amount of effort required to just find them. The process that I’ve developed over the last year of actively being interested in what trans writers are doing is one that involves sorting through a variety of sources including (but not limited to) hashtags, twitter lists, tumblrs, small press’ websites, lists of upcoming publications, blogs that were started in 2015 but somehow look like they were designed in the late ‘90s, Google alerts, alternative lit reviews, Goodreads lists, and word of mouth from the networks of friends that I’ve cultivated. With the exception of the “10 Books by Trans Authors” lists (Which are almost always nine white authors and then Janet Mock, who is beloved by me but is apparently also the only trans writer of color, let alone Black trans writer, that anyone knows) that come up when you Google “trans authors,” there are few places where you can find collected info on what trans writers are putting out. While I still raise an eyebrow to cis readers who just simply can’t find anything w ritten by actual trans people, I am reminded that it’s fucking hard as hell to find writing from trans authors. I’m lucky that I can write-off hours of internet sleuthing as part of a part-time writing gig but even then I’m very aware that there is so much out there that I’ve missed. At a certain point even my type-A personality has to step back and admit that I will only be able to capture a small section of what various writers are up to. There are definitely books and authors that I’ve wanted to put into this post but have had to let slip through my fingers because I simply didn’t have the time or energy. In an effort to pushback against the glaring whiteness of most conversations about trans authors, I tried to prioritize my limited energy on including work by authors of color and spent less energy on remembering work by white authors. Please recommend anything that I’ve had to leave out of this post. If you have any favorite reviewers, groups, zines, websites, whatever, talking about writing by other trans people, please share them as well. Taylor Vanishes On Sept. 5, Taylor returned to Richmond after visiting her family in Vienna over the holiday weekend. She called her parents to let them know she made it back to VCU safely. She then had dinner at The Village Cafe with an old boyfriend. Afterwards, Taylor returned to her dorm room, but left to give her roommate and her boyfriend privacy. Sept. 17, 2005:  Taylors car, a 1997 white Ford Escort, was found locked and parked on a quiet neighborhood street almost a mile and a half from campus. The license plates had been switched to Ohio plates that had been reported stolen in Richmond two months earlier. Neighbors in the area told police the car had not been there the entire time Taylor was missing. A K-9 dog picked up two distinct scents in the car. One belonged to Taylor and the other to 22-year-old Jesse Schultz. During police questioning, Schultz denied knowing Taylor and denied ever being in her car. He was arrested on drug possession after police discovered drugs during a search of his home. On Sept. 21, 2005:  Police reported that 38-year-old, Ben Fawley was one of the last known people to see Taylor alive. Fawley told police that Taylor had come over to borrow a skateboard and he walked her back to her dorm around 9:30 p.m. During a police search of his home, police discovered child pornography and he was arrested on 16 child pornography charges. Fawley, a father of two girls, was arraigned and ordered to remain in jail with no bond. On October 5, 2005: Fawleys ex-girlfriend led police to a house in a photograph displayed on one of Fawleys Internet web sites. The location was an old farm located on her parents property. Euthanasia Euthanasia is defined in the Chamber’s English Dictionary as â€Å" the act or practice of putting someone painlessly, or as gently as possible, to death†. There are various forms of Euthanasia, which I must explain before referring to the teachings of the different Christian denominations. The most common of them is Voluntary Euthanasia, where the patient decides for themselves, that they would prefer to be dead. They might decide at the time, or perhaps they might have written a ‘living will’ instructing doctors to kill them if they are ever in a situation where they will never be conscious again. There is also In-voluntary Euthanasia, were someone else decides against the patient’s wishes that would be better off dead, and enforces it in the act of killing them. Therefore it is often out-classed as Euthanasia, because it is not ‘gentle’. Non-voluntary Euthanasia takes place in a situation where the patient cannot be asked, or more correctly, cannot answer. This may be because the victim is a baby and can’t speak yet, or perhaps the victim is in a coma and is unable to respond to people around h im, but in this case a relative or doctor will decide for the person. It is also important to distinguish the difference between killing someone (Active), and letting them die (Passive). Killing a person is expressed in an action. An example of this, would be a doctor injecting his patient with a poison. Whereas letting someone die, is expressed in not performing an action. An example of this would be a doctor not supplying his patient with drugs that would save his life, and as a result the patient’s life is shortened. But, it is more likely that they will be suffering with him, and will feel the relief if he does not, and they do not have to watch him, live any longer in his painful condition. If this is the case, then they should back his feelings, and give him their support. It has been said that although the earth does not belong to the people, God did create humans to make their own decisions on it. Therefore in the case of voluntary euthanasia, there is no doubt that the end decision must be made by the patient, and not the doctor. If the patient is in a persistent vegetative state, then the appeal for his death, falls into the non-voluntary category, and is of no complication to my conclusion. As I have said already, the fifth commandment is addressing the point of murdering innocent people. Murder is when one person intentionally kills another without legal justification or excuse. If euthanasia was legalised, then it would not officially be murder. Used for fixed-path travel of carriers (each of which has variable path capabilities when disengaged from the towline) c. Towline can be located either overhead, flush with the floor, or in the floor a. Uses a series of trolleys supported from or within an overhead track b. Trolleys are equally spaced in a closed loop path and are suspended from a chain c.Carriers are used to carry multiple units of product d. Does not provide for accumulation e. Commonly used in processing, assembly, packaging, and storage operations 5. A power-and-free overhead trolley conveyor: a. Similar to trolley conveyor due to use of discretely spaced carriers transported by an overhead chain; however, the power-and-free conveyor uses two tracks: one powered and the other non-powered. B. Carriers can be disengaged from the power chain and accumulated or switched onto spurs c.Termed an Inverted Power-and- Free Conveyor when tracks are located on the floor 6. Cart-on-track conveyors: a. Used to transport carts along a track b. Carts are transported by a rotating tube c. Connected to each cart is a drive wheel that rests on the tube and that is used to array the speed of the cart (by varying the angle of contact between the drive wheel and the tube) d. Carts are independently controlled e. Accumulation can be achieved by maintaining the drive wheel parallel to the tube 7.Screw conveyors: a. Consists of a tube or U-shaped stationary trough through which a shaft-mounted helix revolves to push loose material forward in a horizontal or inclined direction b. One of the most widely used conveyors in the processing industry c. Many applications in agricultural and chemical processing 8. Vibration-based conveyors: a. Consists of a trough, bed, or tube b. Vibrates at a relatively high frequency and small amplitude in order to convey individual units of products or bulk material c.Can be used to convey almost all granular, free-flowing materials 9. Vertical lift conveyors: is a power-based conveyer that moves products automatically from one level to another. A. Carrier used to raise or lower a load to different levels of a facility (e. G. , different floors and/or mezzanines) b. Differs from a freight elevator in that it is not designed or certified to carry people c. The Importance of Art Funding According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, art is defined as â€Å"something that is created with imagination and skill and that is beautiful or that expresses important ideas or feelings† (â€Å"Art†). With that being said, it is almost essential that art is maintained as a general course required for every student to take. While having art classes in schools available for students is important, it is also equally as important for the school funding for the art programs to be regulated throughout each district. By using a simple student to teacher ratio to determine how much money should be allotted to each teacher, this reoccurring problem could be solved for good. One of the main problems in the art program throughout the United States is the regulation of funding within the program. For example, while one teacher has one hundred students and another may have seventy, the teacher with seventy students gets a budget of five hundred dollars when the teacher with one hundred gets only three hundred and fifty. On top of that, not only is it unfair to the individual teachers, but it is also happening all over the United States to teachers in the same district.
